Waking up in the morning listening to the noise from the waves and breathing the marine breeze with a pure saltpeter aroma is summer for me. I grew up besides the sea and I cannot understand it in other different way. The truth is that I spent lots of summers like this at the Galician coast of the Cantabrian Sea, until I went to college and summer internships and other obligations arrived. It was then when I learnt how to make the most of every hour of sun to the limit. Bicycle became my best ally to get to the closest beach in ten minutes and take a great bath. But I didn't let these fleeting visits turned into a habit, but afternoons at the beach with friends, family or with a good reading and music still are the center of summer.
Summer time is sea and beach and sun. These three elements turn me into a new persona. Muscle contractures and back pains due to lots of hours in front of the computer vanish thanks to the sun bathes and swimming sessions in the ocean. Yeah, I learned to swim in the sea, by myself, without instructor, without lessons and, therefore, without any technique. I guess that it has a little bit to do with the fact that many beaches at the Cantabrian Sea let you touch the bottom with your feet and still have the feeling that you are very far away from you towel. If in addition the sandy areas are not too crowded and you can relax from one side to the opposite one without scraping against your bath neighbor's knee, that's even better. And best of all is that for your mom water is almost always kind'a cool and she watches you very far away because on the towel the view gets better and the chances for chatting increase.
Summer is time for posing, at least in my village. The best abdomens cultivated based on many hours at the gym fight for collecting the biggest amount of gazes. The best bikini (by best I mean the most expensive one at the only lingerie/swimwear shop in town) is number two in the ranking of competitions. After this it's tanning, which now does not have any merit 'cause a big part of the beach jungle is cheating thanks to winter solarium sessions. It's a shame.
Summer time has already had the starting signal and we only need to cross fingers and pray for having the sun blinding us everyday and we'll be glad to enjoy endless afternoons on the sand.
